Μαθαίνουμε να ευχαριστιόμαστε τον αθλητισμό

Background
From our experience, we notice that the coaches focus mainly on the athletes’ performance and do not
emphasize developing psychological skills and promoting mental well-being. This observation is
probably due to the lack of relevant knowledge and training and the orientation of each coach. The competition
becomes an end in itself, even at the local level, and combined with the intense emotional reaction of the
teenagers; it probably leaves no room for behaviours that aim at different results, such as the development of mental
skills through exercise.
These coaches’ attitudes often exclude the less able athletes, and sport is not mass character. All participating
sports clubs aim to motivate teenagers in training sessions and attract more youths to sports regardless of
athletic ability.

The sports and cultural club “Anemos” was established in
2005 in Chania, Greece. The philosophy of our club is to
promote physical and psychological health, sports, exercise, and culture. Our club has about 300 members, children and adults. We develop the sports of triathlon, open water swimming, volley, beach volley, beach tennis, badminton, and weight lifting for children and adults. In the cultural field, we have significant experience in exhibitions, art lessons for children, and art competitions. We are newcomers to European programs and aim to participate in a project focused on sports.
